Current Sewing Projects

What  I’ve got going on right now, and what’s up next in my queue:

I am deliberately trying to work in a few trends for Spring/ Summer into my sewing queue- this is how I’m going about it.

FLORAL: Butterick 4374 (vintage late 70s/ early 80s)- sleeveless day dress with fitted bodice and full, pleated knee-length skirt; there is also a cropped jacket with pleats in the sleeves- I have a great white stretch cotton with a bright floral border print that should be perfect. Update: DONE! Check out the pics in the Fitting Room Gallery

BLACK & WHITE: McCall’s 6838 (vintage 1979 Bob Mackie)- fabulous wrap dress- I have too many stretch knits to choose from! I’m thinking I’ll go with a white stretch tulle with black polka dots- and I’ll have to line it or make a coordinating slip.

LACE: I have a vintage 60s pattern for a coat dress that I am going to make up in black lace, reminiscent of an Andrew Gn dress from 2006 or 2007. It, too, will need a liner. I also have a really nice medium grey fabric that looks like it’s really finely crocheted. I’m going to use this to make a nice, long maxi dress (pattern undecided).

COLOR BLOCKING: Marfy – a classic wrap blouse in lavender silk; I’m going for something akin to the lavender/ royal blue combo from Blithe Spirit. This will go with Vogue 84250- high waist wiggle skirt, in royal blue linen/ cotton blend. Also, the Burda magazine for February 2012 has a couple of really amazing patterns intended for color blocking- I might try one or two of those.

I also have a top of casual tops that I am slowly making my way through to prepare for summer. I will try to remember to post pictures as I get these completed!
